Lemaire – passion for wood over three generations

For three generations, the Lemaire family has been running the sawmill in the Vosges mountains. Founded as a small, traditional family business, it has quickly grown to one of the innovation leaders in the French sawmilling industry. While every generation adds new innovations and modernization, they put importance on the original values, such as respect for wood and the environment.

The family-run business specializes in structural timber for the construction industry, as well as wood for packaging and formwork. In recent years, a second plant has been opened where the focus is on small and medium-sized woods. This site in la Petite-Raon is also the innovation hub of the sawmill that has been equipped with MiCROTEC solutions.

From Logyard to green mill – a full solution

One of Lemaire’s main goals is to work the natural resource wood as sustainably as possible. MiCROTEC is proud to be part of this ambition in every step of the process by providing solutions that serve this purpose.

Starting at the logyard, Logeye, Maxicut, and Winlog carry out an initial optimization. The Logeye uses X-ray and laser triangulation for log quality grading. In connection with the sorting optimization Winlog, this enables Lemaire to already sort logs according to their ideal quality. Additionally, the operator of the gantry crane has a clear overview of the filling levels of the boxes thanks to log manager tools, meaning he avoids unnecessary journeys, saving time and resources.

The sorted logs arrive to the sawline and are cut according to their quality. Finally, at the green mill, the produced boards are scanned by a transversal Goldeneye to determine their quality and are then sorted into boxes with Variosort. This allows a fully automated and optimized sorting process according to customizable quality parameters.

Innovation as a philosophy

Innovation is one of Lemaire’s declared main goals, which shows in their extensive use of state-of-the-art technologies. Maxence Lemaire, General Manager, specifies: "I am fully satisfied with the Logeye with X-ray on the log yard for quality sorting, and Goldeneye 900 scanner for green wood has enabled me to conquer new markets thanks to the flexibility of the sorting rules".

In line with the company’s aim for continuous technological advancement, this project has laid the foundation for many great possibilities for the future. In particular, the Logeye could potentially be used for a full Fingerprint solution in connection with a CT Log Installation. This would give Lemaire the ability to fully trace their products, from log to final product, taking them even one step further in the innovation process.
