Goldeneye Transverse: Consistent quality for Berneck
Berneck is one of the largest and most modern sawmills in South America, producing around 300.000m3 of finished products every month. In 2016, Berneck received the first Goldeneye 900 in South America for their plant in Curitibanos. Following the successful implementation and positive results, Berneck installed two more Goldeneye 900 scanners—one in Araucária and another in Lages.
The Lages facility, a greenfield project, was realized in collaboration with our partners Springer and Moosmayer Technology | Euroforce . This plant stands out as the largest single-line sawmill in Latin America, with a monthly production capacity of 40,000 m³ of sawn lumber.
At Berneck, the Goldeneye 900 multi-sensor quality scanner, integrated with the Variosort software, plays a critical role in the dry mill’s quality grading process. According to Daniel Berneck, President of Berneck, some of the key benefits of this solution include the ease of use, the guarantee of high-quality products, and the high production speed of more than 160 pieces per minute at which the solution runs.
As Claudinei Vitaczik, Production Manager, explains, the Goldeneye 900 replaces human vision. Previously, Berneck relied on manual sorting which required a large amount of people and resulted in variable quality due to the subjective judgment of individual graders. Now, the scanner guarantees a consistent quality based on customized parameters that are tailored specifically to the customer’s production needs.
Reflecting on this transformation, Alex Souza, Production Supervisor at Berneck Lages, notes, "I still wonder how it was possible to grade lumber without advanced equipment."
The implementation of the Goldeneye 900 in Lages combines the learnings from previous projects, leading to a smooth and efficient integration. Within just two months, the new production line was running at near full capacity. This project underscores Berneck’s commitment to innovation and excellence in the wood industry while reinforcing their partnership with MiCROTEC to optimize their production processes.
